How To Get A Flavour Blaster Bubble On Ice Without Popping
One of the most impressive tricks in the book and yet relatively simple to achieve, adding a bubble to ice will not only increase your garnish versatility, it will also impress even the harshest of critics!
There are many ways to add a bubble to ice, depending on your issue and the type of ice you are using - let’s break it down!
Firstly, let’s understand why a bubble might burst when placed onto ice.
Sharp Ice - Although our Bubble X mixture is designed to be strong and durable, naturally anything sharp will burst a bubble. Ice tends to be rough and ready, with lots of uneven and sharp edges to catch on a bubble. For best results, we recommend using smooth ice cubes, or round balls of ice, rather than crushed ice.
Too Dry - Bubbles love humidity, and the faster they dehydrate, the sooner they will burst. Just because ice is technically water, doesn’t mean that your bubble will feel the benefit!
So what can you do about it? Here are our top tips and techniques to place a bubble on ice!
Tip 1 - Atomise
Ensure you spritz your glass and ice with water before adding a bubble, this extra layer of water will help to preserve the bubble and prevent it bursting.
Tip 2 - Try A New Technique
If your bubble is bursting as you pull back from the ice, try creating a bubble above the drink, and once at sufficient size, lower it down gently onto the ice and flick the nozzle to detach it from the Aroma Gun. By creating the bubble before you add it to the drink, rather than growing it on top of the drink, you can carefully place it exactly where you want it without worrying whether it is fully formed.
Tip 3 - Choose Smooth Ice
Use smooth ice where possible to prevent sharp edges from bursting the bubble. If you use large cubed ice, ensure you place the bubble on the flat side rather than a corner. When using smaller ice cubes, choose rounded ice over crushed to reduce sharp edges.
Tip 4 - Bubble Spoon
If you’d like to add a bubble to your drink without any worry about ice popping it, why not try using a Bubble Spoon? We have developed a nifty accessory that sits on top of your glass, acting as a platform to place your bubble on. This alleviates all contact from the bubble with your drink, so it is a great alternative for any troublesome drink, such as carbonated beverages, high ABV or sharp edges! We recommend misting the Bubble Spoon before use, to give the bubble a nice, hydrated place to sit, increasing the longevity of your bubble.
Tip 5 - Multi Bubble Nozzle
Our Multi Bubble Nozzle is a game changer when it comes to tricky bubble placements. By utilising its patented honeycomb technology, the Multi Bubble Nozzle creates multiple bubbles at once. By creating lots of smaller bubbles at once that are all interlocked, this strengthens the bubble membranes as because they are smaller, there is less pressure on each bubble wall and each bubble is thicker. This alone makes the bubble last longer and less likely to burst, but even if a bubble does burst - don’t worry as you will have plenty more! By creating a tower of bubbles, as the ice bursts each bubble, you get another chance at one succeeding! Our Multi Bubble Nozzle allows you to achieve many situations that would typically burst a bubble, such as adding a garnish to the side of your drink, or putting a straw in the drink without bursting the bubbles!
Tip 6 - Get Creative
Want to add some flair to your bubble service, in a more creative way than just a typical bubble? Try adding some crushed ice into a citrus squeezer, and crush it into the shape of a concave hollowed out sphere. You can then add this to the top of your drink, and use the newly smoothed surface of your ice bowl to add a perfectly sized bubble within!
Tip 7 - Skip The Bubble
If you find that all of these options are too complex or just not right for you, why not forego the bubble and just enjoy the aroma effects alone? There are so many ways you can enjoy your aroma without a bubble - check out our blog on how to use aroma without a bubble here. Incorporating lids and cloches are a great way to add aroma to a drink without the need for a bubble, making them a perfect addition for any challenging ice filled drink.
Tip 8 - Try JetChill Instead!
Want an alternative way to chill your drinks without any ice at all? Why not try out the JetChill Dry Ice System. The JetChill creates ready to use dry ice powder that is safe to consume instantly, chilling your drinks to below zero degrees without any ice. The dry ice gives an interactive bubbling effect whilst creating an aroma cloud above the drink without the need of an Aroma Gun! These tips should help you tackle any issues you face with ice in drinks, allowing you more options and versatility on which menu items you serve with a bubble!
